Since the moment we set out on this journey, and years before our first flight ever took off, we’ve been so fortunate to have worked with so many great partners, cities and people — without whom we would not have accomplished everything we have today. And we all have a lot to be proud of over our first 50 years together.
The cities of Dallas and Fort Worth formed an interim Board to plan and develop what would become DFW Regional Airport.
DFW Regional Airport officially opened with four terminals, three runways and 66 gates.
American Airlines moved its headquarters from New York to Fort Worth, TX.
DFW Airport became the first commercial airport to host a space shuttle landing.
Following a years-long development and construction process, Terminal D, Skylink and the Grand Hyatt finally opened.
After establishing a new Use and Lease Agreement, the rebuilding of Terminal C and construction of the new Terminal F began.
The Concorde made its first landing in the U.S. at DFW Airport prior to opening.
DFW Airport ranked as the world's third-busiest airport.
The airport was renamed to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
After completing construction, DFW Airport became the only airport in the world with seven runways.
Airports Council International named DFW Airport the “Best Large Airport in North America."
It’s been an amazing first 50 years. But truth be told, we’re just getting started— and there’s so much to come on our horizon. With the completion of Terminal F slated for 2026, our goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2030 in sight and so much more, our next 50 years promises to be as full of accomplishments and memories as the last 50.
